"So write and draw and build and play and dance and live as only you can." I needed to read this right now.

A delightful short collection of essays accompanied with beautiful illustrations on the value of art and reading and creativity.

I wanted a book that would inspire me to make art. What I got is a superficial, "happy-go-lucky" collection of essays by a privileged white man who can lie his way through society. I'm honestly so shocked that a lot of people like this stuff because that's not how the world works and "making good art" is so easy to say, while most artists struggle with even making art. And what art is good art anyway? It's like when you tell people you're sad and they say, "don’t be sad". Wow thank you. I’m making good art now 🙂

Really sweet, eye opening and accurate.

Veeery short but inspiring and well written.
(though I don't agree that every idea is valid and should be accepted as such or that I owe everyone to listen to their ideas)

4.5/5

A calling to all the creative types and people trying to make it in the freelance world. Neil encourages pursuing your passion. In addition, this book emphasizing fostering reading fiction, as adults and children, as a way to tend to the creative spark.

"Be bold. Be rebellious. Choose art. It matters."

I haven't read anything else by Neil Gaiman so far, but I love this collection of his writings and transcripts of speeches he's given. They are inspirational, thoughtful, and funny. I'll be adding a copy of this book to my personal library!
