Three novellas with a common theme - humans on an alien world with alien situations.

The scapegoat by [a:C J Cherryh|20173930|C J Cherryh|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png] is a supreme example of her writing style. Brutal, yet quiet, high-stakes yet extremely personal drama. deMarco is one of those characters that stays with you.

Seasons by [a:Joe Haldeman|12476|Joe Haldeman|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1224736362p2/12476.jpg] is a great action-adventure with some scary elements and a fitting end. Is shows nicely what happens when you rush into things that you don't understand, even if it's the only way to understand them.

Cordon Sanitaire by [a:Timothy Zahn|12479|Timothy Zahn|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1215545810p2/12479.jpg] is a great psychological drama set on a far away world, with all the dangers of first contact. I'm a little let down by the finale (it's a bit of deus-ex-machina) but the setup is very original and very nicely established.
