Is this a masterpiece of horror? Maybe? Is it a masterpiece at all? I read this book in one sitting and spent the day considering what to rate it. I could very honestly rate it anywhere from one to five stars and be sincere about that rating. I tend to rate books on Goodreads based on whether I personally liked it, erring one star either direction to allow for writing prowess or lack thereof.
I'm rating five stars because this book disturbed me in a way that nothing has since I had to physically leave the theater while watching Kevin Smith's body horror flick Tusk. What a nightmare movie. Similarly, this is a nightmare book but by god I think I liked it as much as I can like something that I really don't...like. Earthlings is singularly unique and an experience I'd recommend to any horror fan who is okay with reading about uhhh...every awful thing that can happen to a child. Read the other reviews for a description of what to expect.
