While this book wasn’t my favorite Jodi Picoult ever, I did enjoy it. It make me feel intensely, like any by this author do. There were a few things that got me in this book. There is a transgender woman in the book and the main character is derogatory towards this woman. She’s a side character, and the conversations between the two weren’t pivotal. Transvestite was used inappropriately in this book. The main character is educated and would know the difference between transgender and transvestite.
Additionally, the ending was all sun shine and roses for the emotional roller coaster you were just taken on.

Jodi Picoult does it again. It's a powerful book about the lengths you would go to to protect your children.
This book was so vividly written that sometimes it was hard to read. This family had to go through many unimaginable things but yet I still fell in love with every single one of them. How far would you go to protect your child?
Very controversial story, but very well written. I enjoy reading Jodi Picoult books. They are very realistic and she definitely does her research.
I'd read this a few times before in the early Jody Picoult years... recently got a deal on the audio version of it so I was listening to it at bedtime, but that always makes me miss moments, so I pulled the physical book off my shelf and tucked it in my bag for those hour stints in the parking lot waiting for C to finish class. Like most Picoult books, it engages in emotion, family, relationships, and often a bigger issue of the day - this one deals with SA and abuse by clergy.
Loved the plot, could not stand the MC!
Plot: An ADA decides to take matters into her own hands when her son is sexually abused by their priest. Without spoiling, I found the mother so selfish and such an irritating character that I found it hard to feel bad for her at times as the story progressed. I loved the narration and that the POV switched between multiple characters. My favorite point of view was the son!

I have read several Picoult stories and this is my favorite. I have found that usually the court room parts of her books to be less interesting than the main story. However, this story focused on a lawyer as the primary character and that made the court room portion very compelling. I saw the twist coming, but enjoyed seeing it play out.
A little unrealistic, but I think it told a heartbreaking story. It definitely tugged at heartstrings, but I know the ending was a little too picture perfect. It brought up real emotions and was written from a place of compassion. I just struggled to set aside the reality of how the justice works versus how Picoult wants it to work.
