DNF pg 154
I loved the other two books in this series but I don’t really know what was going on here, the story took ages to actually start and the main characters aren’t really that compelling, there is also another romance shoehorned in that doesn’t really work. Tessa Dare is still the queen though.

Book Three in my read-along group, "But Do They Bang?" Tessa Dare really upped the steam for this book - or maybe it's just me? Anyway - I liked Toby. The consensus of the group is that Toby is the worst, but what can I say? The guy won me over.
Great side characters, would love a novella about Gray's brother, Joss, and Hetta.

I struggle-bussed with this one all week y'all. I'm so glad it is over! I would have DNF'ed at the first five chapters if not for the #ButDoTheybang read-a-along. So many great early Tessa Dare threads are woven into this story, but none of them panned out in a way that worked for me as a now reader.
I'd rather have had a full on Hetta and Joss story, but understand why she didn't write that one. But their arc was undersold. The whole part with the chimney sweeps could have been cut and more time spent giving Hetta and Joss's relationship a little more build up.
I also cannot believe Bel was the one to grovel when Toby was the one who was lying the entire time. She sure wasn't innocent, I just never felt these two were right for one another.

Heroine was unlikeable and frustrating, hero was frustratingly obtuse and had a really horrible attitude. The love interests forgave each other too easily. The secondary romance fell into place too easily. Had a really unpleasant birth scene.

I liked it a lot but couldn't forgive the pacing--starts with insta-love which can be fine since it leaves room for development but it also never really resolves both characters' obsession with perfection or Bel's traumatic past. I see where she tried but it isn't convincing.
