2 clueless main characters = 2 star read

this one at least kept me interested to the end, unlike the second book in the series. but it was also worse??

i really wanted to like toby, and i initially really liked isabel. but the more the story went on the more irritated i got at the lack of communication. i get ppl were more private with their childhood trauma & emotions or whateva but the constant lack of understanding between the two of them was pretty unbearable to read about.

toby was constantly putting isabel on a pedestal that she really didn't want to be on. isabel was trying to make toby get into government which was really not what he wanted. they were both immature af.

and i get it's ye olden days but, not to be crass, if it's not a name you can scream you should not name ur hero that.

toby

i rest my case.

I'm sad. I love Tessa Dare but this is my least favorite book of hers. I got about a quarter of the way through and just gave up.

Cute and fun, honestly I could just end this there and be done. But I will say a few more words.

I kept waiting for the big drama, but the big drama was not that big and they talked it through, argued and later made up.

Isabel, I did find her tiresome at times. She was just so self sacrificing with her constant I shall do charity! I shall not enjoy myself! I will not love and go mad like mama! Yes charity is good, but do have fun once in a while too.

Toby, awww Toby. I kept waiting for him to be all revenge! But he saw her, wanted her, thought a second about revenge, and then about ripping her clothes off. Yes he fell in lust and love.

Cute and fun like I said earlier.

Wow I’m shocked to find out that people hated this. Honestly it wasn’t my favorite Tessa Dare but it was still a solid four. I think this book stands out so much because it is different than most dynamics. I am used to reading about a guy who is refusing to love and sees it as a weakness bla bla but to see that in the heroine was interesting. I’ll admit that this at times was a little slow but truly this had so many great moments and dynamics I loved. Also the side story of joss and the doctor was just icing on top I kinda wish they got their own book.

Love Tessa Dare, but this just didn’t grab my attention. I prefer her other series much more.

Quit halfway. I couldn't stand either of the lead characters.
