DNF - To preface I didn't HATE it, just had a hard time keeping track of all the information being thrown at me. It was a tough read for me. I'm not sure why I read so much of this after not enjoying the first book. I suppose I was hoping for some sort of explanation, or nice tie in. But both this and the previous book are just...too weird, the story is chaotic and has too much random detail. In this book, the narrators all sound the same..so frustrating! I love Hank Green and usually all of his content, but this just was not my jam. (I mean, he turned into grape jelly? C'mon.)

hank has my heart

Dammit, Hank. I didn’t think you could top the first book, BUT HERE WE ARE!

It’s been quite a while since I read the first book, so I’m sure I forgot quite a bit of the magic of it. But even so, I really truly loved this. The social commentary, science, and realistic characters is something only Hank would be able to achieve. This book is so much more than a group of twenty somethings trying to fight artificial intelligence. It dissects mankind and what harm or good can happen seemingly overnight.

The plot is great. The characters have never felt more human. And all of this leaves you having to put the book down and just think about the world we live in for awhile. Especially at the moment. It’s 2020 amid a pandemic, racial injustices, and political panic. The world is going through some shit right now. And for those of you who can stomach more world wide chaos in a form of parallel escapism, I highly recommend this book. Not only does it leave you thinking about what the world could become, but it leaves you with hope that maybe things really will get better one day.

A very satisfying sequel. Explanations for Carl were not what I expected, but interesting idea. I liked having more perspectives in this sequel and the message about where we exist online and our role is interesting!

This seems like a really appropriate read right now in light of the recent hostile government take over. A little too on the nose even…4 stars because the ending felt abrupt but I love these characters and hanks mind
