This book has quite a lot going for it : both MCs are great, the police case / suspense is good, the ghosts' part fits in effortlessly but above all, the writing is absolutely perfect flowing and funny and witty and did I say funny ?
Will check other books by this author... like right now.

I have had this one on my TBL list since quite a while and while listening I kept asking myself why, oh why did I wait so long?! I was hooked from the first minutes, enthralled by Noah Michael Levine's voice.

I absolutely loved the grumpy sarcasm! I wasn't prepared for how hilarious this book would be. I'm going to work by bus and caught myself snickering more than once while listening, like a crazy person.

I was team Daniel from the start. And even though I wanted to throttle Rain more than once - at the end they had made it on my favourite couples' list.

I knew early who the murderer was but the way to the resolution had some intriguing twists and turns.

I was going to proceed with the next book (Principles of Spookology) but they have swapped narrator and that's not working for me. Not that the new narrator isn't good - he is - but I can't unhear how I now expect the book and the characters to sound. I will have to listen to something else in between so I can continue this series without expectations at a later date.

👻👻👻👻👻 Five ghosts out of five.

It was an okay read. I liked the story and characters. They were witty and cool.
But the whole story and their dialogues felt a little bit unfinished. Sometimes very rushed.
I had a few moments were I had to go back and read some pages again as I had the feeling I missed something.
Some actions just were not clear and there also were some contrasting parts.....that was annoying. And the relationship stuff felt a little... disheartened. No big announcement of love and I don't really believed them sometimes.
But all in all I liked it. But I don't think I will read the next books.

Rutabaga

Well, hello, men of my dreams. Rain, I love his inner snark and running commentary. It's hilarious as is his family. Danny, I adore him, his protectiveness, and his constant amusement at life. They have an amazing rapport but there's also quite a bit of animosity and pining, so much wonderful pining, between these two. Not to mention the sexual tension and chemistry is so thick you can taste it and it’s delicious. “Only you. Only you can take me from wanting to kill someone with my bare hands to laughter in six seconds.” They have lots to work through, and their pain and stubbornness both hurt and frustrated me. Thankfully they have a strong foundation underlying everything and hope.

So many parts of this book fascinated me, especially the ghostly encounters as they have lots of attitude and are really insightful, and so many parts made me chuckle. When you add in crime/mystery to the paranormal, you have a winner in my eyes.

Fun and good twists

Rain and Danny have a history that they must face as they work on a cold case. Throw in an unwanted gift and you have an interesting concept. Want more!

Four stars for feeling, less for plotting. Rain was a fun (and funny) character, and a number of places had me laughing out loud.

Plot-wise though it was very much a 'do not pull threads on this' kind of read, lol, and in the beginning it was almost enough to make me put it down ("didn't he know Danny would be there""they were together for years have they seriously never talked about that""why wouldn't he ask Ethan x""why wouldn't he ask his mom y""did he even let his sister know about z" and on and on).

I've got beef with the wrap up, too. Amy's ghost? She's angry and then not mentioned again. Jenna? How was she injured? Literally any follow up there would have been nice!

Once I stopped asking questions about the basic premise though I really enjoyed it. :P I liked the ghosty bits, and the mystery was fun, and BOY the spicy bits, YES, and I'm definitely going to read the next one.

Top notch awesomeness

There were a few jarring moments in this story that made me think maybe I'd missed something and took me out of things for a minute. They were extremely few and far between, but it's what kept this from being a 5 star read for me.

Still I really enjoyed this book a lot. I loved Rain's character. The background of where he comes from, his unique family, and the way it's shaped him into becoming the profiler he is was great. Especially since he's just as unique as the rest of his family, even if he doesn't want to admit or acknowledge it. I adored Ethan's bugging him and just being the teenage pesky ghost.
SpoilerI'm kinda bummed that he moved on, I would have loved him to be a regular character.
This was a great story of Rain coming to accept his gifts and starting to learn what he can do with it.

Of course being sent back to his hometown to deal with a cold case puts him right back in front of his ex, Danny. Danny is a great solid cold case detective. I enjoyed watching these two circle around each other and try to figure out their new normal. Both were so resistant to things because they'd been hurt by each other in the past. But communication was never their strong suit. Even as they found themselves falling into old habits, they needed to learn new ways to interact with each other. But they were stronger together and I enjoyed the connection between them. I appreciated that Danny didn't just jump to believing Rain. He was reticent at first and thrown by Rain's abilities though he trusted Rain enough not to just shut him down. His acceptance was important. I liked that it wasn't just innate.

The mystery was just enough to keep you interested and still let the reunion between Danny and Rain be the focal point. It gave Rain an avenue to explore his talents with great reluctance. I can't wait to see how things will go in book two now that his talents are acknowledged. It's going to be a lot of fun.

This started out strong and drew me in right away but within the first couple chapters it lost its intrigue.
I didn't really feel the chemistry between Danny and Rain. The sex scenes were sexy but I never actually rooted for them to get a HEA.

The story was good, however it was predictable. I suspected the plot twist (if you want to call it that) and who the murderer were within the first quarter of the book.
