I totally loved this so much which was not something I was expecting.Full of sass and a entertaining MC who is not likable sometimes and ghosts who were adorable?..Yeah, sooooo wasn't expecting this.
I really thought this was a mystery/suspense book.It does have that but I don't know for me, the romance and the characters were the things that worked. Not the mystery aspect.NOPE.
But this had a cute MM ship and weird family and a character named RAINSTORM.So, if you want something fun, this is definitely the book you need.
Ironically, I love everything in this book (especially Rain as the main character) except Rain's non-relationship with Danny.
I think what bothers me the most is the fact that they had four years worth of relationship between the two of them, but despite that mere stated fact, it didn't feel like they really knew each other well. Maybe if the story were written with a lot more remembered memories it would feel more real. As it was, it only made me feel as though I'd been dumped in the middle of something that I didn't connect with.

2024 reread
Still love this book, though I think some of the issues (like the uneven relationship build) stand out a bit more to me now than when I first read it. Probably more like a four star read these days, but keeping at 5 for nostalgia.

Original 2017 review
Gorgeous. I wish this author had more books, because I would totally gobble them all up!
I love mysteries with a dose of supernatural, and the balance here was brilliantly struck. The case was suitable interesting, and the characters were all fabulous. I loved Rain and Danny, their past and their chemistry and the way they interacted. It was all wonderful and totally hooked me in.
The book definitely has a satisfying ending, but I also feel like it's perfectly set up for additional books following this same couple. Not sure what the author's plans are, but I would love more of these two!

Spoiler
They're in a good place at the end, but I would totally read more about them finding their legs as a couple again, working together at the new unit, and dealing with the ghosts from Danny's past...
LOVE LOVE LOVE! A delicious paranormal, second chance romance mystery novel with my favorite witty banter
Ghosts
Paranormal single point of view
Standalone
Rain’s career is on thin ice after he revealed his ability to talk to and see ghosts. He has one chance to prove he’s not crazy by managing a cold case back in his hometown with his ex. The case is complicated when a ghost from DC hitchhikes his way in and all Rain’s secrets threaten to be exposed.
Danny was somewhat of a cinnamon roll hero. Would have liked to have seen more of Rain’s struggles with his ability as memories or something. Really liked Ethan - he was feisty!
