This is one of those books that has been sitting on my tbr for a long time and this gave me the chance to finally read it. I feel bad for how Rain has felt but was so proud of him when he decided to admit the truth. Though it does seem a little strange that he would pick to go back to where is ex works and then be surprised to be working with him. I was able to understand Danny’s reluctance to let Rain back in after their break up years before. This story has so much going on and you can see both of them processing how they are feeling about their case, their relationship and then the ghosts. Knowing this is just the first book and we’ll get to see more of them in the future.

I received a copy of this book and am giving an honest review.

Reread Feb 2019 via Audiobook - 3 stars. The Narrator was just ok. He has a good voice but he didn't have distinct voices for the characters.

This book Is Awesome! Best second chance romance.

There is nothing more I can say that has not already been said in the other reviews. This on deserves all the praises.

Our Main MC and narrator Rain (i love his name) is an FBI profiler who sees dead people. When he is tasked with solving a missing person cold case, the case takes him back to his ex’s hometown. Danny his ex, is a detective and they are partnered to work on the case. The adventure begins from there.

I Loved

- The humor and this one has lots of it, it will have you laughing from page one to the end. S.E Harmon’s sense of humor is just the kind I love. The writing was great, we only get Rain’s POV and that did not bother me at all, because I was left satisfied.

- Banter between Rain and Danny, it was on point, Rain knows how to throw around words and Danny knows how to catch and throw them back.

“Thar be treasure in that there unit,” I said with an awful accent.
He groaned. “Please don’t do the pirate.”
“Why? Ye showed me yer booty just last night.”
He spluttered with laughter. “You’re a perverted Davy Jones.” He leaned down to roll the door up. “And on that note, let’s see what we found.”

- The mystery too was engaging, it kept me guessing and entertained at the same time. Criminal Minds style.

-Rain’s hippie family, they were amazing and supportive. Nice to read about them.

My mother took one look at my prom date and said, “My God, Rain, I hope you’re not leading this poor girl on.” Luckily my date, Angela Jamison, had just been doing me a favor. My father certainly didn’t help things by peering out of the kitchen and sighing, “Honey, how long are we supposed to pretend we don’t know he’s gay?”

-Ethan the ghost, one of the best ghosts I have ever read about. I hope he gets to see the light, even though he says there is no light.

- The chemistry between Rain and Danny, it oozed off the pages, the sex was Hot! Filthy! Dirty! and I loved every second of it.

His mouth moved over mine aggressively, almost angrily, and that was fine by me. More than fine. If he tried to do flowers-and-roses romance right then, I would’ve seriously kicked his ass. As it was, I was pretty sure my lips were going to be swollen, the way he was abusing them. He sucked my bottom lip into his mouth and tugged on it with his teeth, wordlessly asking me to open more, and I did with no hesitation. He rewarded me by possessively plunging his tongue into my mouth.

He sighed. “Jesus, take the wheel.”
“Tell Him to drive me home while He’s at it.” I closed the book and pushed to the edge of the bed, where I unhooked several leads that connected me to medical equipment—medical equipment I was almost 60 percent sure wasn’t mandatory. A particularly shrill beep made me pause. Hey, I did say 60 percent.
“Rain.”
“Come on, Danno. Let’s blow this popsicle stand.”
“Rain.”
“Real love is an Against Medical Advice form.”

Please tell me there will be another book PLEASE

I really loved Rain and Danny together. The fact that they had history gave it the right amount of angst. The ghosts weren't really spooky, tbh, and it focuses more on the investigative side of things. This was a fun read! It was really easy to like Rain as soon as I started the book.

P.S. I Spook You was a fun read. I'm not sure how to go about reviewing it as a whole so I'm going to list some likes and dislikes to make this a bit easier.

Likes

The characters. The main characters were so entertaining. They just work well together, and you can tell the author put a lot of work into them. Rain is sarcastic and funny, Danny is a bit more serious but either has a secretly funny side or knows Rain well enough to have the perfect comeback to his quips. You're cheering for them from start to finish, because it's clear they still care deeply about one another despite their fears of being hurt again.

The ghost. Ethan, the annoying, lovable, pervy ghost. I hope he got a happy ending. He was crucial to the story even though it wasn't his murder they were solving, and I appreciated what he revealed about the world of ghosts. That it's more complicated than "I'm going to haunt this rest stop restroom where I died." Most of the ghosts were pretty entertaining, especially when they seemed to be at their whit's end with Rain. Wish we could have seen a bit more of what they can do but I'm confident that's something we'll get to see in other books.

Disikes

The timeline/writing. This definitely isn't an "all the time thing." I can't get through a book if I don't enjoy the writing. But sometimes I had a difficult time interpreting what was going on or when certain events happened. I think clunky is a good word to describe what I felt. For instance, I had a difficult time figuring out when Rain started seeing ghosts.
SpoilerHe did blurt out while arguing with Danny that it was why he'd left, but I kind of have a hard time believing he was able to hide it/not accept it until returning home four years later. From the way the ghosts seem to be a part of his life, this seems almost new to him.
There were also a few moments where things didn't flow particularly well in the text.
SpoilerLike when Amy's ghost was constricting his lungs. I didn't actually understand that was what was going on until the whole "Please" and she releases him, thing.
The section breaks needed to be a little clearer as well. Maybe my Kindle just formatted them strangely, but I often got confused.

The rules. I'm confident that this is something that will be developed in other books, but the rules for being a medium or how ghosts work didn't feel all that consistent. At one point he bumps into a ghost and mistakes him for a flesh and blood person before realizing that they're not. Later he insists that ghosts can't interact with him or the living world. It's one thing if it hasn't happened before and he isn't sure, but it's still a contradiction that got to me.

The title. I don't know why, I just really don't like it. I think it's supposed to be like P.S. I Love You but I've never read or seen that so I'm not sure what the joke is. I actually almost didn't read it because I kept getting stuck on the title.

Overall I really enjoyed it. The series needs some work, but I honestly think the author will get there. It's a fun spooky season read too!

3.5*
After a short while reading, I approached this as a light hearted read, slightly tongue in cheek, a little bit ghostly and some action/adventure - so I did enjoy the romp!
Yes, there were issues with police procedure and the banter between Rain and Danny did get a bit much will they wont they at times, when did Rain’s ghosts first appear etc.
But I enjoyed the hunt for Amy, the slog of chasing leads long dead. The ghosts kept coming though and for a main part of the story, some were perhaps too easily dismissed. I did like Ethan though!
Rain’s hippie family shaped him into the buttoned up FBI agent he had become so seeing him gradually soften up was nice.
Danny’s fondness and exasperation with Rain came across but whilst they did get together I wasn’t so convinced of the romance.
Rain solves the case but not without his TSTL moment (one of the oddities with police procedure) but it all works out in the end.
