Wow. So good! Very excited to read the sequel. Loved the protagonist and the characters!
This is easily my favorite fantasy book and series of all time. My cousin recommended this to me at a family outing, and he was so certain on how great it was that I couldn’t deny giving it a shot. The intro to the book is a little slow, but it quickly picks up to discuss the secrets behind Kvothe’s past. The series has in depth world building, and creates a world with magical elements that remain scientific in nature that allows it to almost sound viable. Its an approach to magic in a medieval-esc setting that I’ve never seen before, and its extremely refreshing and interesting. Kvothe has lived a long and winding life, and he’s experienced many different ways of life that shaped him to who he is today. You’d think that putting your main character through so many different situations in one book would create a conflicting, hard to read book, but Rothfuss manages to keep Kvothe’s personality consistent throughout the entire novel, allowing readers to stay sucked into the story. This is a fairly long novel, and I finished it in a couple of days because I was unable to put it down. Rothfuss incorporates mystery, magic, science, romance, humor and varying conflicts to develop fantastic characters, amazing world building, and definitely a memorable series. Along with this, the book feels like a unique and fun D&D adventure where you follow the interesting tale of a snarky and intelligent bard, so if you like Dungeons and Dragons you’ll get an extra kick out of this series.

Really really liked this book. Mixes some of my favourite stuff such as magic ("real" serious magic, not Harry Potter magic) and a prodigy kid Ender-alike. I'm not really a good reviewer, but I'd recommend this book without blinking.

The protagonist was a bit too stupid throughout most of the book despite how the author tried to build him up as a savant, and the book plodded along in a lot of places where Kvothe was just dicking around. The worldbuilding was incredible but the story was plodding and cumbersome.
