I’m a sucker for anything bookshop or library related, so I really wanted to like this, but it just didn’t hit the mark for me. I appreciated reading about the blitz, but the writing felt forced and overdone (no one really uses the word “visage”) and it was all very twee. I liked some of the side characters more than the main, so I wish there had been more about them. Overall, this one was fine but not a strong recommendation from me.
An easy read, in spite of the fact that it is set during war. Straightforward storylines move steadily forward with likeable, if not deeply developed, characters.
DNFed at around page 40; there just wasn't anything pulling me in.
Sweet, intense, realities of war and stepping up because you've got no choice....I loved this story and read it in a day!
Fantastic. Historical fiction and a book lover's dream! ♥️
4+⭐️ I thoroughly enjoyed this book and that enjoyment was made even stronger by meeting the author during book group. I have read many WWII books, but this viewpoint from a resident of London during the Blitz was written with many details that were new or really hit home in a new way.

The essence of being a reader and the power of reading and story was truly conveyed within its pages. It reminds me of how much I love reading aloud to my children and experiencing a new book for the first time with them. Seeing their eyes wide and intent as I read. This book also gave me some new book recommendations that I will be adding to my list. Overall, it was a great read and I will be recommending it to others.
