The story is actually fairly simple, but a lot of themes are crammed in this short novel. The writing is also really good. It didn't click with me the way it did with other people, but I still enjoyed reading it and I can appreciate the quality.

Love characters who are born unlucky and struggle against the impossible odds, come SO CLOSE to reaching their goals, but then fail and die. It's an unhappy ending, yes, but there was love and passion, and that is what matters.
