Not very twisty, suspenseful, or enjoyable. The main character is down right dumb and the perpetual lack of common sense that persists throughout the book is infuriating. The whole plot lacks any substance. All in all terrible.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for providing this book, with my honest review below.

I loved the movie Fatal Attraction when I watched it way back when. It’s a classic for a reason not least because of Glenn Close’s performance as a wronged mistress who goes off the deep end. I had only wished that the wife in that movie would have left Michael Douglas’s character and made him suffer in turn. Our Little Secret hits all the best notes of Fatal Attraction while also giving me some insight into the after, which was excellent. Brooke was a believable character and I appreciated her journey throughout the affair, and especially after. Neal was less enjoyable but he needed to be written like this so I’d understand Brooke’s motivation. And Gideon was a villain who could almost hold his own with Glenn in the movie. And Brooke’s sister Leah was, put simply, the absolute worst.

Now, I’ll admit I misread the description as gender bending versus genre bending so was a little confused as to what was to come and how it could possibly be done, but I must say not having gender bending worked out for this particular story. The only thing I didn’t quite get was why the storylines of the missing girls (Allison and Penelope) were brought into the story as they served little purpose either as believable red herrings or as mirrors for Marilee or anyone else in this story. Outside of this, this book brought me back to the classic (for me) cinema or Fatal Attraction with some of the comeuppance, done in a way I didn’t expect, that I’d wished that film had introduced.

He swore he’d never let her go. She should have believed him.

“How far would you go for something you wanted?”

Brooke Harmon is ready to end her short revenge fling with Gideon Ross. She’s going to try to make it work with her husband. But things aren’t always that easy. Brooke quickly learns that what she thought was a fun fling that can be ended at any time, has turned into a dangerous obsession and Gideon may not be the man she thought he was.

“I would do anything.” “If I had to, I would kill”

Our Little Secret is my first Lisa Jackson book and I did enjoy it, even though it had predictable parts and seemed a bit over the top. This book was full of betrayals, lies and laced with some paranoia. No-one is being honest, which makes you not really connect with any one character. Even though the book was written in Brooke’s POV, I think the author did a good job of helping build the sub characters back stories for us. There is a storyline in the book about 2 missing girls, that sort of just disappeared by the end of the book. There was a lot of time spent on this and I feel like it would have been great to get the end to it (we do for one girl but not the second one). Maybe that’s a future book?! Overall, this was an easy read.

** Thank you to NetGalley, Kensington Publishing and Lisa Jackson for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. **

95% of the book was slow and the action parts were way too fast. I also could not stand how much the main character talked out loud to herself!

Totally Gripping and Thrilling!

I just finished reading "Our Little Secret" by Lisa Jackson, and it was so good! The story is about Brooke Harmon, who has an affair with a super charming but creepy guy named Gideon Ross. When she tries to end things to save her family, Gideon won’t let go and promises he’ll always be there. Fast forward a bit, and even though Brooke thinks she's moved on, Gideon comes back, and it’s seriously intense!

I loved Brooke’s character because she’s so real and relatable. You can totally feel her fear and determination to protect her family. The way the book dives into her life and shows her relationships, especially with her husband and daughter, made me really care about what happens to her.

The suspense in this book is amazing. Just when you think you know what’s going to happen, there’s another twist. Gideon is such a scary character, and his obsession with Brooke kept me on the edge of my seat. I couldn’t put the book down because I had to know what he was going to do next!

The writing is smooth and easy to read, which made the book even more enjoyable. There were a few predictable moments, and I wish the ending had tied up a few more loose ends, but overall, it didn’t take away from how exciting the story was.

If you love psychological thrillers that keep you guessing, you should definitely read "Our Little Secret." It’s got all the drama, suspense, and twists you could want. Lisa Jackson did an awesome job, and I can’t wait to read more of her books!
