Our Little Secret

Lisa Jackson

3.3 AVERAGE

This is a standard: she's cheating and the ex-lover is stalking/threatening, he (husband) has a wandering eye, sassy/angst teenager daughter, screwed up sister, missing teenage girls - too much. Book was boring and DNF.

I wasn’t crazy about this book. Some of the characters weren’t believable and lacked authenticity. It read like one of those movies where 5,000 gun shots are fired and no one is hit. There is a new secret around each corner but it isn’t convincing.

Plot or Character Driven: Character

I enjoyed this story. Brooke was kind of a frustrating main character but the story was intriguing. Neal is a jerk. I felt like the ending wrapped up very quickly BUT we did get all the loose ends tied up. Except for poor Penelope. We will never know what happened to her.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys psychological thrillers.

Wow what an intense read! Thanks to NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for this eARC. From page 1 this book just took off. It was so intense. It was filled with affairs, cat and mouse games, and an immense amount of stalking. I loved the thrilling aspect of this book. I found the narrator's internal dialogue of asking questions to herself really exhausting. If you took out all of the questions she asked herself the book would be half the length. That being said, I ate this up!

This book had me on the edge of my seat!!!

After a brief but passionate affair, Brooke needs it to end. Trouble is Gideon feels they belong together and he will do anything to keep her.

I was so paranoid for Brooke!! It was so tangible!!

I usually don't like books with unlikeable characters but I was so invested in what was going on, it was easy to overlook.

It was a well paced and I loved the psychological undertones to the book. It covers cheating and blind obsession and I was hooked right in.

I didnt see the ending coming either. So good!

4 stars!

Almost didn't finish this one...

Ya'll, it finally happened. I have NO QUOTES for this book! I know! Devastating!
So, I'll start off with if you like family drama, this is the book for you. Everyone is always arguing or blaming someone.
The short rundown: wife is upset that husband cheated on her so she cheats on him, telling no one, and discovers that her side piece is insane and terrible. Problems raising a teenager. Strained marriage, obvi, that they are forcing together for said teenager. Over-the-top drama queen sister. A lot of distrust all around. Bonus: a good doggo named Shep.
The first half: ping-pong game between getting along and falling apart. The second half: THE TEA.

Let's give bad news first:
- I understand it's for the plot, but being your grown age with a child and not being able to break off something with a guy? Lame.
- A guy "memorizing" your address is fine?????
- If I read "she heard the whine/roar of a motorcycle," one more time...
- I know FMC is a cheating idiot, but damn! Why is everyone else giving her attitude and on her case 24/7.

The good news????:
- She's terrible at handling her daughter's attitude, but she's not wrong about her daughter needing a talking to.
- Part Two is WILD. Almost gave up reading until I got to it. It made up for the first half a little bit.
- Proves my point that you shouldn't "make it work" for your kids. Choose to be better parents, separately, for your your kids.

A little over-the-top, but not completely unbelievable. There are weirdos out there, ya'll. Be safe!

This book, while somewhat violent and terrifying at points, was fascinating. I will admit I was at first "oh another cheating spouse thriller," but was pleasantly surprised throughout the book by not only the details, but the relationship and character development as well. This book only took me a few days to read, and was well worth the read. I was definitely trying to predict what was going to happen, and was pleasantly surprised that I didn't guess it correctly every time.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington for the advanced reading copy in exchange for an honest review.

Everything about this irritated me. The lies, the teenager, the horrible cliche of cheating spouse and shitty ex boyfriend.
This was like a bad soap opera that I was trying to wade through but couldn't.
From the very beginning the novel was just a hot mess express.
I probably won't try this author again.

There is sure a lot going on in this one. It is more than one little as almost all the characters have a secret. It keeps you trying to keep track who is honest and who isn't. Lots of twists and turns. A good read.
