Listened to audiobook. Excellent reader. What aggressive ruthless characters.

Even though it’s the 4th in a series it was a good mystery that had a well rounded ending. It’s always fun to read about dysfunctional tight-knit families turning on one another they always to the craziest things.

I didn't realize until I started reading that CJ Box's Highway Quartet novels are the basis for the TV show Big Sky. The Bitterroots was a real page-turner that I devoured in 2 days.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a nice switch up from my normal thrillers and my first book with a Western theme. The stetting of a burning Montana really added to the suspense and storyline. I appreciated all the female MC’s especially since the author is male; he wrote them very well.

There were some points in the story that I felt like information was just known by the MC instead of being told to them. It felt like Cassie was searching for people like Lindy and Haak but they were never mentioned prior. How did Cassie know to look for them if she was never tipped off?

Overall, I can overlook those small details and the slightly disheartening ending and say I liked it. I would love to read more books set in the Wild West.

The best in this series so far. I do like the Joe Pickett stories better, but Box is developing Cassie Dewell into a fine character as well.

In my estimation this is a lesser effort by Box. The editing and writing is sloppy, and it just seemed to me that he watched Yellowstone on TV and stole some of the main characters. Just didn't do it for me.

Wow, what a ride. I usually prefer the Joe Pickett series but this one is great. What a way to tell a story and keep the reader wondering about earlier events coming back or not... I must recommend this to all my followers.
