Nice easy read

Starting a re-read of the whole Pucking Around universe as I count down to the release of Pucking Sweet this fall.

I love this sweet and spicy novella about Jake and Rachel’s fateful night in Seattle. I highly recommend reading this before Pucking Around because it gets referenced a bunch (his nickname for her is Seattle) and you get to see the instant connection they have, despite them not exchanging names or contact info. It also makes Rachel and Jake’s run-in in Jacksonville that much better. Plus, this spice

I don’t actually think you need to read this to know the story when reading the other books.

Sports medicine doctor Rachel has just received the news that she was not selected for a prestigious fellowship assigning her to a post with a pro team. Depressed and far from home, in Seattle for her brother’s wedding, she heads to a bar and strikes up a conversation with Jake, a pro hockey player (though Rachel doesn’t know that) from Florida visiting his sister in Seattle for the weekend. They hit it off immediately and head to her hotel room…

This was SO BAD. It’s the prequel to the exceptionally smutty Jacksonville Rays series (Pucking Around, etc.) and it was slightly better than PA (which I got halfway through and couldn’t continue). It was steamy for sure, but the dialogue was so tacky, and the way the romance scenes are written was straight up demeaning. Also, and this is more an observation about Pucking Around, I lost count of how many times Rachel would have had her medical license revoked because she’s constantly jumping the bones or everyone on the team. I hate when female characters with impressive careers compromise their futures over some infatuation. I don’t want to yuck anyone’s yum, and I know this series is quite popular, but it’s not for me.
