This is my kind of book, fast-paced, suspenseful, and extremely entertaining. Rizzoli is definitely not my favorite character, but good books need to have an imperfect persona to complete the cast and she definitely fits!

In addition to the ignorant gender stuff talked about in other reviews (it seems to me the author goes out of her way to make Rizzoli douchey to prove a misguided gender-equality point), the detective/cop kills an unarmed black man and spends like 1 minute of reflection on it (and no minutes on remorse). The situation is not criticized by the narration and is glossed over. The detective wants the other cop to lie about it for her. Her only regret is that it means she can't continue to work on the case and prove herself as a woman detective. If she's supposed to be a terrible antihero who you're meant to want to read about anyway, that effect was completely lost on me. Then I DNF'd this garbage.

Ich war anfangs sehr skeptisch, weil ich die Krimiserie um Rizzoli und Isles sehr gerne mag, und die Romanvorlage ja doch sehr abweichend ist was die Charaktere angeht. Nachdem ich mich aber davon distanziert habe, konnte ich mich voll und ganz auf das Buch einlassen.
Ich fand überraschend gut, wie distanziert Gerritsen manchmal wirklich furchteinflößende und brutale Dinge beschreibt. Allgemein gefällt mir ihr Schreibstil gut. Das ganze Buch war sehr spannend, ich habe gar nicht gemerkt, wie die Seiten verflogen. Band zwei liegt schon bereit!

I really enjoyed this book. Great characters, and she doesn't skimp on the medical descriptions. While there are differences to the tv show, I really enjoyed this book and will probably read others in the series. I'm glad I was prompted to read a medical thriller this month. I would definitely recommend this too other readers.
