Another great book! Finn is at it again in another addition of novelist/contract killer mom Finnley. I didn't rank this as high as the first book because it seemed a tad less messy and chaotic than the first. The appeal of the first to me was that Finn was a recently divorced mom of two struggling to make ends meet and write her book while fending off her cheating ex. The mystery of the hit and the mod seemed more organic and chaotic in thought. This book seemed to have the thoughts in boxes and every trail was followed like a practiced detective who had a lot of experience. Even with Finn and Vero basically solving several murders and getting a mod boss arrested, they're still just civilians who dabbled in contact hits. It was a tad disappointing but it's still a great read!

Honestly didn’t love this one as much as the first book in the series, but as I read on it became charming enough to still enjoy it :) I’ve gone ahead and placed a hold on the 3rd book as well so Elle Cosimano must be doing something right

Just like the first book in the series, the beginning dragged on for me. And I have a hard time relating to Finlay even though I am a mom with a toddler because I feel like she makes a ton of choices that get her into unnecessary trouble. I have a hard time suspending my disbelief reading this book, but when I can, I really enjoy it. The story is kooky with lots of unexpected turns, which keep me coming back to find out what happens next.

Probably the best sequel I’ve read in years! Finlay & co are such a fun group of characters and you can’t help but to devour this as quickly as you can. I would definitely rank the first book higher, but this one is just as fun and twisty but with slightly less payoff at the end. This is forgivable, though, as it’s in favor of setting up (hopefully) a few more books. The ending works well, it’s the perfect balance of tied-up loose ends and cliffhangers. Can’t wait for the next one!

I love these books so much. The way Elle Cosimano writes is just so addicting, her characters are hilarious and the plot twists in both Finlay Donovan books have had me gasping out loud, screaming in surprise. I cannot believe I am expected to wait until January for the third book, I don't think I'll survive.
I inhaled this book just as I did the first one, I enjoyed it so much. The plot was intriguing, Finlay's writers block was so relatable, and I'm still kinda rooting for her to end up in a poly relationship with Nick and Julian, or just end up hooking up with Vero. I mean Vero is already the perfect step-parent to Zach and Delia sooooo, just saying.

I listened to this while taking a road trip to Central Florida and back. Perfect book to listen to on a long drive. Finley and co are back & better than ever as they try to unravel who is the person or people that wasn’t her ex husband dead. I definitely can see the improvement in the writing, storylines and character development in the second book compared to the first. The author did not fall in the sophomore slump with this one. While I know this is mostly revolving around Finlay, I did wish we got a little more about Vero and her backstory since we were teased with a few bits here and there. Maybe hopefully the third book we will get to know more ? I do like that even though it’s obvious Julian and Nick like Finlay, the romance wasn’t a huge component. Although I do think maybe she should just prioritize being single for a little longer? Nick seems great but we don’t really know him beyond his cop persona and Julian seems like a friends with benefits placeholder. I’m excited for the next installment !!
