It’s ages since I read a Donna Leon and this was a good one! As ever, I love the descriptions of Venice and of the food that Paola cooks for Brunetti whilst he solves crimes! Sometimes these books’ endings fade away into Italian corruption or cover ups but this had a very satisfying ending. The family conversations and interactions are so well written. The book specific characters were so well rounded and thought provoking, particularly when reflecting on the ending. I just want risotto now!

It has been some time since I read a Donna Leon mystery.
I’ve missed Guido and the wonderful classical education he brings to the table.

4 stars.
Another pleasant addition to the Guido Brunetti series. He is asked to privately investigate a companion of an old friend by Guido's father in law. There is a murder and a long buried secret. There is only one murder and little violence. I recommend this book to Donna Leon/cozy mystery fans.
