This graphic novel was absolutely beautiful. Both the story and art were absolutely captivating. I really fell in love with the way the artist used color, the changes from vibrant to dark, and even muted at times was just done beautifully. The art style is stunning, I just love all the detail that was put into the art. Sometimes it felt like I could actually see the lions dancing right off the page. It made me want to go see a lion dance again. And don't even get me started on those full page spreads! I could stare at this art forever.

The story was really good too. It was easy to fall in love with the characters, even the minor ones I didn't see much. And they all just felt so relatable. I enjoyed tagging along with Valentina as she made her journey through love, even though I'm not one for romance.  I just wanted to hurry up and devour this graphic novel but at the same time I didn't want it to end. I'll have to read it again and again, it is easily something I could read a million times.

Read for Blue Hen. This book was really cute and nicely illustrated. I liked the background that it gave and how the author explained traditions. The grandmother was hilarious and helped to break up some of the more serious scenes. I would recommend this for sure to teens!

Also… I want a part two of Bernice and Ed.

4.5-4.75 ⭐️? Really interesting premise and story connecting Valentine’s Day with Lunar New Year. Definitely learned a thing or two about lion dancing and some assorted Asian cultural beliefs.

I was left with a few questions
- about if Saint V/Valentine was supposed to be just a manifestation of something Valentina was going through mentally, or actually some paranormal/supernatural being, even if a combo of those two things
.

I appreciated the variety of Asian cultures - Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean - all showing their love and appreciation for Lunar New Year.

This book will make you want to bring back handmade valentines and learn how to fold origami hearts!

A very sweet story! I can see why so many people recommend it. The illustrations were gorgeous and the lion dancing was very interesting to learn more about. While this is a romance, I liked that Val had impactful storylines involving her best friend and her family members, too. I was hoping it would be a bit more memorable but I enjoyed it for what it was.
