This story was cute. It had cute romances (but ew, love triangle), and a cute friendship. The main character's family also learned good lessons.
The art was also beautiful. I loved the style of the art. Sometimes, I'd just sit and look at one of the pictures for a minute to really soak it in.
But, I ended up not really liking the characters. They were all kind of awful. Like, they're all pretty terrible people and they seemed pretty flat to me, too. I didn't care that much about them, and they're hard to root for. This is the kind of book where you're supposed to root for the characters, but I just didn't care.
So, it was okay. It was overall a cute book, but that's kind of it.

This was super cute and I loved the story so much. It was not just a romance but a complex story about families and secrets. The graphics were great as well. Highly recommend!

So good for so many reasons.
This one didn't grab me as much as his previous work, in part because the characters felt and behaved much younger than they were written (high school seniors). I did like the New Year and dragon dance elements.
And again, I continue to BEG all kidlit, middle grade, and YA authors, especially National Ambassador to Young People's Literature authors like Gene, who should 1000% know and do better, to STOP PORTRAYING NEGATIVE LIBRARIAN STEREOTYPES. It's lazy and harmful to reader relationships. How is this still happening?!
