BORING. That would describe a good 2/3 of the book. I expected a funnier and more interesting read, and I mostly got a list of stupid antics by a self-destructive person. To try an autobiography about celebrities behaving badly try One Man Tango by Anthony Quinn - at least you learn more about old Hollywood there.
Brilliant, awful, tragic, poetic, disgusting, beautiful.
I was somewhat disappointed by this book. He doesn't gloss over the fact that he was kicked out or fired from jobs and schools (deservedly so) for being an all-around ass; I respect him for the honesty. I just felt like he could be more insightful rather than just re-telling a story. The chapter about his show RE:Brand was great. This was published in 2007, so a lot has happened in his career and personal life since publication. (No, Katy Perry is not in this book). He leaves it open for more books to come, and he has had more published. I'd read another, but I wouldn't rush to do so.
Maybe if I was from the UK and actually understook 1/3 of this book, it'd get higher marks. the ever present cultural references are lost on me as is local slang and Russell's way of writing (exactly as he speaks).
I grew frustrated constantly looking words up and referencing footnotes. That plus the fact that I found the book boring meant I didn't finish it.

Russell Brand is a very interesting character with an interesting life. And he can write so I enjoyed this book.
Tried, but couldn't even finish it. Sorry. Really wanted to love it.
I enjoyed this book, although Brand's grammar constantly threw me off. Another book written as though told through conversation, the British-isms come with explanations, which are quite helpful. This was an insightful look into a comedian who hasn't fully conquered the American shores, and now I know more about his start than others. I'm trying to find his second book because this one covers a lot of information, and I want to know exactly what he had left to tell to fill a second novel.

At first I did not know what to think of Russell Brand, because his rockstar persona was kind of annoying and he came across at pretentious at times. But now I realize there is more to him than the persona he puts on.
