While enjoyable, this lost the magic of the first. Plot seemed a bit too ridiculous, especially with how smart/quick the main character was in the first book. Seemed almost like two different characters. He should have realized things much sooner.

The unicorn plot seemed eerily similar to The Last Unicorn by Peter S Beagle and typical of Brooks, the ending felt rushed.

I did enjoy the new character called the Prism Cat. He was clearly inspired by the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland but still enjoyable. I found myself more interested in his character than the rest of them.

2.5 stars, but good reads doesn’t support that. The 2nd half of the book is much better than the 1st half.

A mystery wrapped up in a fantasy novel. Love this series.

Well, that probably concludes my experiment in high school nerdstalgia. I'd forgotten just how boring high fantasy can be when it's played straight.

This was an interesting story. It gave you more of an insight into the characters, Ben Holiday in particular. Questor Thews and Abernathy are still my favorite characters and I was pleased to see that Willow had more of a part in this book. I'm looking forward to the next book.

i would give it 2.5 stars, as a sequel it really did not do much justice to the first book at all, i dont know where ben's lawyer SMART brain went but it clearly got up and walked off for the majority of the damn book. every fairy creature kept telling him the same bloody thing and does he listen nope he whines. questor, abernathy and the kobolds, i am excusing willow because she was scared and probably in shock with everything that has been happening to her, but the others were friends and staff of his not to mention they know his mannerisms and how hard he works, so why the hell do they not recognize that the bloody king is not their friend ben holiday till pretty much the very end when their was more than one moment in the book they could have easily figured it out and came close but than it went right back in circles. In my notes where i was gathering questions i had and important facts i made a note frequently about how idiotic ben, questor, and a bit of abernathy. this book took me pretty much a month because it didnt motivate me to read it as it honestly pissed me off a lot. i believe this book could have been done a lot better or maybe kept more in line with how the first book was written.

Second in the three book compilation volume - and still pretty good. I like how everything flows from one book to another, but this one followed three separate storylines and jumped around a bit.

I liked this one much better than the first book! It kept me hooked and wanting to read on. I KNEW there was gonna be a pregnancy thing and I hate when straight pairings always have to have a baby, but I guess the whole king lineage is a thing. Gonna keep reading on in the series, stay tuned o7
