As a big fan of the films, I loved this book. Yes, it was cringy, but that's part of what made it fun. I love a good unrealistic romance to make me laugh sometimes

I really liked it. 4 stars. I've seen several reviews for this book while reading it, but strayed away from the ones that contain spoilers even though I saw the movie first. I hope that the quote Stephen King made about Meyer is someone's cruel attempt at a joke because it was just harsh. This book was not that bad. At times there were subtle differences between the movie and the book, then at times there were parts that I don't even remember from the movie; there were parts where I remember them in the movie but it was slightly different; I liked those 2 last parts the most. Reading this book almost felt like I was discovering the Twilight saga for the first time because it seemed like the books tell one story and the movies tell another.

Isabella (Bella) Swan is moving to Forks, Washington to live with her father and attend school there. Until she moved house (and state, for that matter), she had been living with her mother and her step-father (recently married). She didn't really want to move house all the way to Washington state, but felt compelled to, nevertheless. It had nothing to do with with a very interesting family that she would encounter, but more for personal reasons. How is it humanly possible to know what things will take place or took place in another city/state unless you are a genuine psychic? (my local friends with get the inside joke)

So she must step out of her comfort zone of Arizona's scorching heat in exchange for the rain filled days in Forks. She completely starts her life from scratch in a new area and eventually realizes there is something different about a family called the Cullen's. Everyone knows this story so it's pointless for me to leave out the Vampire angle. It had moments of suspense which didn't exactly keep me on the edge of my seat, but was interesting to read nevertheless. The 1st person perspective and focus on human emotions and the emotional lack there of was interesting as well. 4 stars.

My Notes:
March 23rd, 2012:
Pg 152, 30.52%: "Im starting to feel rather daft for forgetting how much I enjoyed the first movie. Naturally i'm noticing differences between the two. Who knows!? Maybe i'm just changing my mind about the series. This book is utterly fascinating."

I don’t understand why Edward didn’t bite her in the end. Clearly she is willing and ready to give up legit everything so like… hurry up?

I don’t get the hype behind Jacob, lads just a hinted at wolf who isn’t even a contender for Bella’s heart.

<Also what happened to her school friends? They all just kinda die? Like they were non-existent in the ending there>

Kinda slow to start but really picked up speed in the end. Cute romance and unpredictable. Bella is super funny and sarcastic which brightens the mood. I feel like it was kinda one note though, it needed something else to happen.

Reread

What can I say Twilight will always be iconic. I read it for the first time 14 years ago and nothings changed, it’s still one of my favorites.

Crying Score: I used to, but not anymore.

Such a hard book to rate. We all know it's not a great piece of literature, and Meyer's racism and obsession with weird age gaps definitely depreciates the quality of the literature that is there. But it is so fun. I had a blast reading it. It's silly, very of-it's-time, funny at parts, and a very interesting take on vampires. The background characters are far more interesting than Bella and Edward. I read this for class but I am tempted to read the rest of the series again.
