The story was interesting, especially the parts about the Dresden firebombing. I had a lot of trouble with the voice, though. I kept wondering if Oskar was supposed to have Asperger's because his voice seemed unnatural for a 9-year-old. The switching between voices originally bothered me, too. It wasn't clear enough to me who was talking the first time a new voice was introduced.
A little slow in spots and some chapters were a bit too long, but the story is amazing. When I finished the book I knew immediately I could never see the movie.

i had watched the movie like 10? years ago and really liked it so i got the book but my poor middle school mind could not comprehend the majesty that this book is. now that I am slightly more literate I can truely appreciate how unique this book is!! only thing is i kinda zoned out at times when it was the grandpa's letters

Ein Ereignis, welches die ganze Welt erschüttert hat, aus den Augen eines kleinen Jungen, der Teil davon wurde. Die Art und Weise wie man von all den großen, schweren Themen erfährt, die diese Geschichte behandelt - Tod, Trauer, Scham, Angst, Einsamkeit - hat mich auf allen Ebenen mitgenommen.
Die vielfältigen Charaktere denen man begegnet, durch die Perspektive Oskar's, welcher schon für sich genommen eine tolle Figur ist, das macht richtig Spaß.
Ausschließlich einige Parts der Geschichte der Großeltern fand ich schwer nachzuvollziehen oder fragte mich, was sie in diesem Buch zu suchen hatten.
