I think actually reading as opposed to listening to it may have been better for me, because I just can't take it seriously when grown men try to read in children's voices. It always sounds kind of cheesy to me.The real problem I had with this one is that there wasn't much actual story. There is a ton a gruesome descriptions, but all of the gore seems like a lazy attempt to overcompensate for the lack of plot or an interesting premise. I didn't find it suspenseful, scary, or really that interesting. It was just a bunch of gross things happening in a field somewhere.I recently read Bird Box and had the same problem in that POSSIBLE SPOILER:you don't really get answers about why this strange stuff is happening, how it all started, or what is going on in detail. It's just a creepy field and a mysterious rock. For me, these stories lack a certain creativity in not coming up with a reason for things. They just describe weird things without any actual story. A good fit for anyone looking for a short read that is very gory. Not much story-wise, but definitely has a lot of disgusting descriptions.

This was a fun read but nothing extraordinary.

I got major Tommyknockers vibes from this what with the stone in the field making people mad.

At the end of the book there was an excerpt from Doctor Sleep and that was more exciting! So stoked.
