Jau seniai neskaičiau tokio gerumo įžanginių sakinių. Tiesiai į kaktą – skaičiau ir skaičiau vis iš naujo, žavėdamasi paprastu Kingo ir Hillo genialumu. Sunku pasakyti kur vienas pasibaigia ir kitas prasideda, bet Hillas jau senokai atsisakė idėjos bėgti nuo tėvo šlovės, todėl gal nesupyks, kad ne visur jaučiau jo paties įtaką. O gal tiesiog jau atkalė ranką. Istorija trumpa, o vienu metu ir tarsi gana, ir norisi dar. Retas atvejis su Kingu – dažniau jis linkęs daugžodžiauti, todėl beveik džiaugiuosi, kad iš žolės išlipom, kol nespėjo užknisti. O ir reikia pripažinti – mokantys per 44 puslapius sukurti atskirą pasaulį, su savomis taisyklėmis ir sava religija, patys yra kažkur arčiau šventųjų. Ir tikrai – logikos čia nepritrūksta, o pati atmosfera primena „Kukurūzų vaikus“ – ten plėtojimo daugiau, o ir mistika gniaužia kaklą stipriau, bet beprasmybę tvirčiau jaučiau „In the tall grass“.
Nemažai linktelėjimų „It“ pusėn – tikiu, kad ne be reikalo. Novelės logika daug kur primena beprasmiško, tačiau amžino, balansą palaikančio, pasaulio kirumpliaračius sukančio blogio idėją, jau pažįstamą ir pakankamai išplėtotą kituose kūriniuose. Todėl sakyčiau, kad „In the tall grass“ labiau papildo Kingo kūrybą ir jo kuriamą mitologiją, pasaulio tvarką, nei padeda į ją įžengti. Vietomis novelė šlykšti, bet pasibaigia greičiau, nei iš tiesų spėtų oda pradėti vyniotis. Nepaprastai kinematografiškas kūrinys, bet turiu nuojautą, kad Netflixinė kūryba gali jį gerokai nupiginti – kada nors patikrinsiu. Vis dėlto, Kingas ir Hillas gražiai ir džiuginančiai kartu susidirba – vietomis per trumpai, vietomis nuspėjamai, jau girdėtai, bet vis tiek tiesiog kokybiškai.

In the Tall Grass is a novella by Joe Hill and his father Stephen King. I’ve seen the movie before, and I’ve gotta say there’s more detail in the movie than in the book. I’d rewatch the movie but I wouldn’t reread the novella even though it’s only 60 pages long.
The book is written well, to be expected, but the plot in the book was lacking in the places the movie made up for. Still fucked, still feel very meh about it.

Well that's sure as hell was something! Super spooky read in about 1 1/2hrs. I think this is like the 1000000000x better than I'm thinking of ending things (which I hated)

Warning: in this book they do talk and have descriptions of dead animals and its gory so I wouldnt recommend for everyone.

A great short read
I will struggle to rate novellas over three stars, especially those with ambiguous endings. However, in terms of visceral responses to reading, this is a very decent read!
I am all for books that get you to empathise with the characters, and the hopelessness of the characters plight comes across very quickly in this - “Abandoned at sea in a drifting current” came to my mind, at the same time that it was described as that within the book. That to my mind is good authoring!
However, from being just hopeless, this book turned a bit weird, and a little deep, with minimal explanation, and that’s where it ended up lacking. A good read, but not a great one!

Despite being almost unspeakably gruesome, I was left wanting more. I do think it was wise that the authors chose to leave us with more questions than answers.
