Didn't realize when I picked this up that it was just a short story - but I guess I can see why. Neat, but very bare bones.
Though definitely creepy and a fast read, this short story didn't really do anything I didn't expect. I wasn't super invested in the characters either, making it an unexciting read overall.
My first ever exposure to an audio book, and a very good one at that. I was afraid that I would be distracted and not be able to pay attention to it. This was a very thrilling story, as it kept me wanting to know what would happen next. It seems more like a Joe Hill horror story than a Stephen King one, but you got the feeling which parts were written by whom.
I cannot say too much about the story without spoiling it. There is a mysterious force in the field of grass that draws people into it much like a venus flytrap.

I listened to the audiobook on my trip back to PA and I could not finish it. If you know me, you know I love Stephen King but this was so disgusting and gross, I could not finish listening to it and had to stop it. I was very disappointed. It is possible to scare people without completely grossing them out and this book had the potential to be truly scary but instead went for the gore factor.
Let me start by saying that I MUCH preferred the novella to the film adaptation. The film added a whole lot of weirdness, which I think happened because the source material is only a little over 50 pages. This novella has all the horror and creepy feelings of dread and isolation, without the heavy-handed supernatural and time travel aspects of the film. It packs a solid horror punch.
This was a really quick read, but it managed to successfully creep me out! I'll be staying away from fields of grass for a while.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but the movie is better.
It's a mix of everything - the book is too short, and a whole lot of nothing happens. The writing felt very Stephen King-ish, and I was a little disappointed because I've really started to favor Joe Hill lately. But the story is also incredibly short, so it's not exactly difficult to get through. Reading it kind of felt like being lost in the tall grass - repetitive and going nowhere.

More of a personal preference, but the vibe I like to get from horror is more “creepy”, and this did give me that vibe at first, but ultimately this story just made me feel...disgusted. Turned my stomach, but if gore is your thing and you have a high threshold for the disturbing then you might like it.
