I have read other books from both of the authors and to be honest I like more their other works. The advantage is that since is a novella is a fast read. It has some interesting parts but in general did not gave me so much enjoyment.

Definitely one of the more disturbing short stories I've read. It was a great, quick read for any psychological horror fan.

I am unsure if this short story is supposed to function as a homage to King's own Children of the Corn, but the similarities are too great to let In The Tall Grass stand by itself.

Nevertheless, this is an effective piece, with well-drawn protagonists, some good gross-out moments, a nice overall atmosphere of existential dread (that image of the grass waving 'ecstatically' in the wind is incredible) and, of course, the much talked-about piece de resistance involving Becky DeMuth's stillborn baby daughter. Urgh.

There are also extracts from Doctor Sleep and NOS4A2. Interestingly, the opening sentence of King's sequel to The Shining is markedly expanded upon in the published edition.

What is great about this is it keeps fans happy, while promoting the authors' upcoming longer works, of course. It is a perfect showcase for the shorter form itself, and hopefully will encourage more people to dabble in the genre.

In The Tall Grass is one of those short stories that make you want to both put the book down, but also keep reading to find out how it ends. A brother and sister traveling through the Midwest are startled by shouts for help coming from a field of tall grass. They park, wander into the grass, and that's where things start to go downhill. The story is dark, full of anxiety, frustrating, and a bit graphic near the end. If you have a weak stomach, you may want to avoid this one. I liked it, but I felt there could have been a little more oomph to the plot to make it better. Overall, a pretty decent read. Four stars.

Having read both Stephen King and his son Joe Hill before, I can definitely feel both their voices in this novel. It's a little more current and less detailed than a normal King novella, but it made for a creepy audio book. I listened to it all in one day, lingering in my car much longer than usual in order to finish it. I loved the relationship between the brother and sister, and I found myself rooting for them long after it became apparent that they had stumbled into some bad shiz. It is a horror story, bad, gory things happen, things that will linger on your brain and haunt your sleep.

You think he is not going to do it, but he totally goes there.

Well that was horrifying

*3.5

So this #short-story was strange. I really enjoyed the pop culture in this story, but past that I was just plain weirded out. The #audiobook is excellently read so that made the listening/reading experience more intriguing. But unfortunately this one is a Miss for me from these two 2.5/5

I devoured this story in a few hours, first time reading something by Joe Hill. It was up there on the gross factor and thinking about the story in the morning made me feel like I wanted to become a vegan. That quickly passed though and I would recommend the story :-)
