The writing in this series is getting better and better. I actually didn't predict the killer until the very last few chapter, so that was a plus. The characters continue to be endearing and the plot is entertaining.
Cute cozy with likable characters and yummy cupcakes but I thought there was some loose ends left over of the mystery. Could be because I'm battling a cold and my brain is a little oxygen deprived.
Enjoyable addition to the Cupcake Bakery Mystery series. I really like the interaction between Mel, Angie and Tate. Throw in the DeLaura brothers, a pirate kitten and a goth intern for a jolly good romp.

I got this book in a grab bag at a bookstore and was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it! Of course, I love sweets, murder mysteries, and cats, so it really was right up my alley. I especially appreciated all the recipes listed at the end!
Yippee!! A visit to Fairy Tale Cupcakes, and a chance to see Mel and Ang. Ok I will only admit this once, and then deny it forever. Angie scares me...I mean I love her, but her temper...gees. Look out! I was going to cheer them on at the Scottsdale Food Festivals Challenge to the chef. Mel’s favorite instructor Vic Mazzotta from culinary school is going to be a judge...maybe this will give them a leg up. The competition begins, and Vic is still nowhere to be found. Later his body is discovered in a walk-in freezer. His death is labeled a suicide, and Mel is convinced this is a mistake. She is adamant that Vic would not commit suicide, and ropes us in to investigating what really happened…
My thoughts:
Another sweet treat! This series continues to satisfy. I enjoy all the characters...what an interesting bunch Mel is smart and clearheaded, Angie is the dynamo...just like a stick of dynamite ready to explode, the brothers and their meddlesome overprotective ways, Olivia the nemesis brought so much drama. When she was carted off by security at the end, I was pumping my fists in victory...just like Rocky. This book added Oz, a new member of the bakery team, and one I hope gets more cameos in future books. The cooking competition was such a fun setting. There was so much mayhem going on judges backstabbing each other, crazy competitors, poison, and dead bodies. The mystery was entwined with lots of twists and turns, and when so many people hate the victim...everyone is a suspect. I was guessing until the end. What a fun read!!

I do like this series. The characters are so likeable you find you're interested in how their personal lives turn out. I guessed whodunit, but the plot was so intricate I found it really interesting and edge-of-seat about how it was done. Their nemesis gets on my nerves because it feels a bit over-the-top, but not so much that it detracts from my enjoyment of the book. I'm thoroughly looking forward to the next one.
