Love this series. The titles are punny and just too much fun! This one takes place at baking competition. Every book in the series revolves around a body being found and Mel solving the crime of who did it. It's a quick read, and the characters are lovely.

This book is exactly like cupcakes! And it has the added bonus of a murder mystery.

The characters are all like cartoons. They argue like cartoons, they are enthusiastic like cartoons. For our main character Mel, and her friend Angie, they own a cupcake shop in Scottsdale Arizona, and the gals are described as "young, fun, and easy on the eyes." They have a best friend, a man, named Tate, and he and Angie are secretly in love with each other. He is sort of like a muppet, in my opinion. During a baking competition, Tate literally "pops up between" Mel and Angie and is all like "Hey guys, how are you doing?? Did you win??" Like where was the dude hiding, so he could pop up in the middle of the ladies' work space?

Unfortunately, Angie and Tate cannot be in a romantic relationship yet, because Angie is in a long-distance relationship with a drummer named Roach. He was apparently in a previous murder mystery novel; someone in his family was the victim, and then he and Angie began dating. Mel, and her boyfriend Joe, don't have much hope that Angie and Roach will last long. Joe hypothesizes about Roach: "He has a lot of groupies launching themselves at him like sexy missiles." Yes, Joe. That is exactly how groupies operate, how did you know??

And just so we know, Angie and Joe are siblings. They have six, SIX other brothers in their family too. And of course all the big, Italian brothers support every single minute of Angie's life. They help run the bakery, they cheer for the gals during the cooking competition, and they almost eat everything too. Those darn full-grown men! Gosh, what are we gonna do with them??

The book contains yummy recipes, and a kitten arrives in the plot!

Mel and Angie have an "enemy" named Olivia, who runs a rival bakery. And the women, when they become angry enough, chase and tackle each other during their arguments. They threaten to kick each other in the "patoot." To assist in the chasing and tackling, Mel and Angie are lucky enough to have hired a "punk" intern, named Oz. It's nice that a huge young man who enjoys wearing all black also enjoys baking cupcakes and tackling middle aged women who are trying to steal and escape with a trophy.

I didn't know what to read after finishing this book. My brain felt all sweet and gooey.

This is the third book in the Cupcake Bakery Series, and it was as well written andenjoyable as the first two!

I have enjoyed the characters, Tate, Mel, Angie, Uncle Stan, Joyce and all the DeLaura brothers! In this book, the Bakery gets an intern, Oz, that looks nothing like a baker, but turns out to have some mad skills!

The Scottsdale Food Festival is in town, and the Challenge to the Chefs is upon them. Mel and Angie entered the pastry division, and of course Olivia Puckett is entered and trying to make waves from the beginning, including standing on the stairs blocking the enterance to the office so that they can't turn in their registration, but you know that isn't going to stop Angie, not growing up with seven brothers, they have a plan and make it on time.

The contest involves baking with a mystery ingredient, and the all the judges for the contest were t culinary school with Mel, two were teachers and another student. She has a history with them all, but her favorite teacher, Vic, who helped her through her father's death is there and he is counting on her winning. On the day of the first bake-off, Vic is no where to be found, until Mel and Angie wander to the margarita tent, only to find Vic in the freezer, dead.

Baking competetion, poisionings and more keep this book jumping to the end. I loved it! can't wait for more!

Melanie and Angie enter a baking competition and folks start dying. A bit too convoluted for sense, but that's somewhat expected in this style. What really got me was the continuing annoyance of the competitor. It's so nonsensical as to be a complete turn off. I almost gave this two stars just because of that.

I'll try one more book in the series, but if the author doesn't let go of that terrible subplot I'm done.
