This book solidifies the need to invent a box of jelly beans that accompanies the book. The jelly beans are in a book, individually sealed, with the page number written over the bean (think advent calendar style). Then, when you get to that page you eat the matching jelly bean so you can taste the food that is being described. The cupcakes sound so delicious and there is no yummy cupcake bundle that come with the book; this is a serious disappointment.

I love the setting of a baking competition. It gave an easy background to the mystery, and was fun and easy to picture. The murder itself was alright. There were some good suspects and characters. I enjoyed the slow romance and look forward to seeing how Angie handles her tough decisions in the next book. Mel and Tate are fun. I’m not a huge movie buff, but I can guess one or two of the quotes. Definitely going to continue this series, especially now that I’m able to get it as audiobooks!

I love the characters in this series. I want to go to Scottsdale and hang out with all of them. The only eh for this book was the recipes at the end. None were very interesting - but they were great for the contest. The brothers are awesome and provided some good laughs. I also like the new character, Oz.

"Death by the Dozen" is the third book in the cupcake bakery mystery and is back up to the standards of the series debut. In this installment, best friends Melanie Cooper and Angie DeLaura have entered the Scottsdale Food Festival, but one of the judges and Melanie's former ventor Vic Mazzotta is murdered during the competition. I love the two women's friendship as well as Melanie's budding romance with Angie's brother Joe. I don't like the cat and mouse games between Angie and Tate, but hopefully the suspense over "will their friendship turn to romance" will be worth the wait.

While the rivalry with Olivia Puckett, another Scottsdale bakery, has its amusing moments, some of Olivia's behavior is over-the-top and unbelievable. A new employee to the bakery is a keeper, though, and adds to this fun series. The mystery was interesting and ending answered all unresolved questions and the book ended with some delicious sounding recipes.
