I recognize that this is satire but it just really made me hate rich people and it was hard to focus on anything else.

That was such an exhausting read... I couldn't even read it in the orthodox manner anymore. I had literally given up with this book and now wonder if that was the purpose, if you were meant to feel as frustrated as these tiresome characters. I really loathed them all.... Would not recommend this book and if anyone were to ask me what it was about I would simply say it left me speechless. Maybe it will be a book I'll read again in ten years time and will only appreciate it then, as for now I never want to see it again. Never, never, NEVER!!

The Beautiful and Damned by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Once more I’m convinced, that Fitzgerald is one of my absolut favorite authors (probably mostly the parts he stole from his wife, so Zelda might be my favorite author as well? Idk).
He has a way of putting the ordinary, the mundane in words that feel so rich, so perfect, so made for the exact mood he is describing... Ughhh.
Admittetly, his stories aren’t the most entertaining or action packed, instead he lures you in with beautiful prose, sometimes like a poem, then again a play, way to dramatic to be realistic but conveying so much raw heartache and emotions, it makes you wonder how someone 100 years ago felt the same things as you do now.
At its core, this is a story about wealth, morality, two people in love and as their fortune decreases, so does eventually said love.
It’s a sad story and it is not. Gloria and Anthony are the reason for their own misery, misery they’ve brought about themselves with pride and ignorance.
Waiting for the promised inheritance wears them down until they eventually lose all their friends, their status and their respect for each other and themselves.
Well… reading my little summary, this doesn’t sound like an exciting story at all, but I would read a grocery list, had it been written by one of the Fitzgeralds (next up is Save me the Waltz, I desperatly need to read it).
It’s unusual for me to like something simply for the writing and themes, but the lack of plot, three dimensional characters and messed up pacing, all falls to nothingness, considering the damned beautiful (pun intended lol) prose.

Came here because of the Great Gatsby, left preferring the Great Gatsby . Uhhh also , Fitzgerald seems to enjoy using & reusing the “beautiful little fool” line to describe women in his novels I guess.
