OK, I admit it...I am OBSESSED with the Disney/Pixar movie "Coco". Unashamedly so. I watched the movie with the family the other night and the onion ninjas were out in full force. (That's what my kids said as I sat there bawling my eyes out...in a good way.) If you haven't seen it, DO. I completely fell in love with it -- the beautiful story, the gorgeous animation, the poignant music and (most importantly) Dia de los Muertos. Oh how I wish I were Mexican and grew up with this truly lovely tradition! (I hope no one minds that I will be celebrating it from now on.) So when I went searching for more "Coco" stuff, I was thrilled to run across "The Art of Coco". Quite simply, this book is exquisite! I have so much admiration for the artists who worked on this film. Everything (and I do mean everything) was done for a reason and was planned out meticulously...nothing was left to chance or included "just because". It's no wonder "Coco" won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film (and Best Song to boot)!
I give this five brightly decorated sugar skulls surrounded by marigolds!!!

The art was gorgeous, but I was hoping for more text about how the story and art were developed.
Full of colorfully rich, culturally-inspired art that framed this utterly perfect film's vision. A must-own for Pixar fans.
Me ha gustado mucho, a pesar de que aporta menos información adicional en comparación a otros libros de "El arte de...". Por otro lado, tiene muchísimas ilustraciones preciosas y es una historia genial.

god how i wish they kept the interesting original concept styles with all the individual artists’ brilliance instead of churning everything out with disney blankness by the end
I've been disappointed lately by some of the art books I've read lately because they either didn't have enough text or they had too much. I think The Art of Coco strikes a great balance, without detracting from the main reason you should pick up this book: the concept art. There's a large variety of mediums here with, sketches, digital paintings, storyboards, and clay sculptures.
There's a few sections of text dedicated to different crew members talking about how meaningful it was for them to work on the movie, but I thought those sections all sounded pretty genuine. The rest of the text was not wasted at all, listing some of the different artists, art periods, and locales that helped shape the movie and how the cultural history/traditions helped inform certain creative decisions.
There's enough art in here that artistic folk will be more than satisfied, and enough text that someone who doesn't have much of an art background will find something to enjoy. I really enjoyed this book and I'd recommend it to any fan of the movie interested in learning more about the film.

This was such a wonderful and beautiful "Art of" book. I loved the insight it gave into their creative process. However, I would have liked more information with the pictures. The pictures were wonderful in and of themselves, but it was sparse on explanation on what they were trying to achieve or portray. More writing would have made this perfect.
Estos libros de arte siempre cumplen, especialmente cuando se trata de una película de Pixar.
