This is a really good book. No real reason not to give it a 5, except that it's one of a number of good books that speaks to this feeling, and not necessarily the standout. I LOVE this kind of book and will recommend it all over the place.

This one hurt to read. It reminded me of all the insecurities I had when I was 16, especially about my body. I think Murphy does a great job showing that regardless of someone’s own size/weight/etc., fatphobia can be super present. Willowdean is constantly looking at others and judging them and a lot of reviews pointed out that they hated that about her, but that’s what I loved most about this book. Murphy’s great ability to write a character who you just want to shake and shout at to recognize that everyone has parts about themselves they don’t like regardless of the way they look is so relatable. Everyone internalizes their insecurities in different ways, but seeing into willowdean’s thoughts about herself and the way she projects those onto everyone regardless of how they feel was super validating. Also, the overall story and message was great. I enjoyed the way it was written and the characters a lot. There were parts it dragged a bit, but I still enjoyed it overall. Good read for when you’re feeling insecure about yourself.
this is a movie on Netflix. all I remember in 2020 about this book is I didn't like it. like at all.

I think everyone can relate to this book on some emotional level with how the discussion of body insecurity. Will starts off being this amazing role model but "Bo" made her feel like she wasn't good enough, conforming to every teenage stereotype ever. The main character was a bit excruciating at times. The plot was kind of predictable. It just had that cheesy vibe, but was desperately trying not to. The side characters didn't make me fall in love with them. Overall, it was an alright book.
2020 me here to say that I think my problems lied with her being annoying to read from and I didn't like bo like at all so...

I am so in love with this book. It jumped to the top of my favorites so fast. Honest, funny, sad, joyous...This one has it all. I loved Willowdean and all her quirks. Yes, she flits from embracing how she looks to being ashamed of it once in a while, but that's what makes this book so real. No one is happy with themselves 100% of the time.
I love that this book isn't about dieting to fit in, but rather figuring out where she fits in exactly how she is. This book embraces flaws and reminds you everyone has them. I found myself re-reading passages over and over.
This will be a book I will read more than once

I love this book and everything it stands for, but the last few chapters were anti-climatic.
This was the first ever book I finished on audio. Listening to this book was a great choice because it was a nice contemporary with a great message. I find in many books that a plus-size character is questioning or struggling with their weight or are patronized for being okay with their body. However, in this novel the portrayal was much more positive and realistic. It was a great read and I can not wait to watch the movie adaptation and read the sequel, Puddin'.
