The writing was not very focused. We got a lot of detail about things that really didn't matter. Why was so much time spent describing tennis drills???

Also, intentional weightloss/wellness because of a man is not it.

Additionally, I didn't like the narrator. Keeping this apart from the book rating to be fair, but the narrator had 1 voice for every male character, and it was not good.  Every man sounded angry or over macho. And the women's voices were strange too. They were all one note, no emotion came through the voice. If you're looking for a good audiobook, I'd skip this one.

Overall a really cute romcom! There were a couple things I didn’t care for but nothing that took away from the story. Would recommend if you need a cozy, laughable story!

I feel like I just couldn't get into the book. I really wanted to see the couple fall for each other and start dating, I really liked savvy and Spencer's banter and getting to know each other. And maybe I'll try to pick this book up again later as an audiobook. But it just felt like there's so much description that was unnecessary. And the comments about Savvy's body always made me a little uncomfy. Would not recommend to anybody who struggles with an eating disorder or bond dysmorphia.

DNF after 5 chapters.

In the opening chapter, biracial (Thai/Black) Savvy lets her boyfriend of six years treat her like crap and then appeases him when he criticizes her for not paying enough attention to him (i.e., not being home in time to cook him dinner, etc.) Yuck. But since boyfriend dumps her in chapter 2, telling her she's let herself go and he needs an upgrade, I kept reading. But there's not much forward momentum in the storyline; we don't get a goal/motivation moment until chapter 4, when Savvy decides to "upgrade" herself to get revenge on her ex. Yeah, not the most feminist of storylines here...

Set the book aside to check out Goodreads reviews at the end of 5 chapters, to see if the story got any better. But it appears not. So, yet another DNF book for me...

What to expect: post break up, fat rep, neighbors, weight loss

I liked most of this book, but didn't love the way it handled weight loss. The friend group was really well done, and the romance could have benefitted form a little more development.

I will admit I didn’t think I would ever read this book. I started it and put it on my monthly to be read list several times last year and could never get past page 21. This is because I hated the way her boyfriend treated and spoke to her as a plus-sized woman. But I didn’t want to miss out on what could be a great book, so I finally read it. I was thoroughly surprised.

The plot was a great mix of romance and other subplots. It is not a romance per say, so don’t go into it thinking it’s a romantic comedy. The author ended the book answering every question and wrapping up every plot point. I still think about this book and it’s almost a new month. She did a great job at following the mental and emotional impact of being in that kind of relationship. I appreciate her writing style, which was a more melodic way of straight forward.

I loved Savvy’s heart and her passion for cooking! Even in her weakest moments, she still grabbed hold of the reins and took the bull for a ride. She never failed to make me laugh, cry, and smile. Her strong-willed nature, even during the wrong decisions, is something I resonated with. But unfortunately, she constantly referred to Li as homeless because she didn’t recognize him as a resident of her neighborhood and he always had on what most would consider the clothes of someone who builds and paints. Her aloofness was my least favorite part of the book, besides that douche of an ex-boyfriend. Oh, there’s also the “revenge body” thing, which I never agree with, but it does help Savvy see how aloof she is.

Overall though, I would recommend it. But beware that it is not a romantic comedy!
