Triggering for someone with a history of eating disorders. I could not finish unfortunately.

I got to page 60 and I just couldn’t carry on. It was boring. I’m trying to read more romance and being a plus size babe myself I expected more …

This definitely feels like a novel version of Lizzo’s Good as Hell. I mean the title alone gives it that vibe, but also it’s empowering, uplifting, and relatable. I loved the FMC’s group of super supportive girlfriends; they were wonderful.

This definitely found like someone’s self care/self love journey more than a romance. The romance was definitely secondary, and honestly this was a good choice. I loved it! This is definitely an author I’ll be keeping on my radar.

Savvy Sheldon Feels Good as Hell by Taj McCoy
Content Warning, this story contains Fatphobia both external and internal.
This book is excellent. I want to preface my personal feelings by saying there is NOTHING wrong with the story or the writing. I personally have a difficult time with stories where the main character is down on themselves about their weight. I have a history of disordered eating and disordered exercising. It took me a long time, and a lot of therapy, to accept my body where it is at all times. Reading stories like this is uncomfortable because of my past trauma.

Things I am here for:
Authentic Black Representation
LGBTQIA2S+ Representation
The dialogue is excellent
The descriptions are spectacular! The food and cooking, her tennis, her yoga, her clothes, her surroundings. Superb!
Savvy’s friends are so supportive! The definition of Ride or Die.
Savvy gets there in the end!
The meditation scene was so awesome
The hairdresser is my absolute favorite person!
Spencer is the BEST kind of hero
Steam!
Real family and Found family!

This is my 7th book for The Diverse Baseline Challenge, the 1st for the February prompt of Found Family.

I was really looking forward to this book but it never really addressed the MC’s internalized fatphobia and it felt like the message was about self-love looking a certain way
