DID NOT FINISH

Bad writing.

Could have use some fleshing out (some scenes were much too short and the world could use some more description/ building). The main plot twist was predictable. Battle scene was a bit hard to understand. Overall, an enjoyable read with 2 in-development main characters.

Whilst this book wasn't ground breaking literature I did enjoy it.
The pacing was far too fast for me and it meant I wasn't that investing in anything really. You'd get to a pivotal part and then the next chapter it's 3 days later!
Also I didn't give a shit about any of the characters.
Likely I'll forget the entirety of this book by next week but as of right now I like it😂

DNF at 50%

I DNF'ed at 36%, and really felt like I gave it enough time to get good before stopping.

I love a fantasy trope, and definitely appreciate the art of it, but this was just trope stacked on trope with very little original content inbetween. One of the other reviews mentioned that the story didn't feel "fleshed out" and I would agree. We're told and not shown most of the time, and things progress inexplicably and without much fanfare. In the 1/3 of the book I'd read, we'd already found out a shocking (not really, we knew it was coming) twist about the FMC....and then a side character then clued her in on the whole bit as well. It was formulaic enough that without even reading the rest of the book I could tell you 90% of the rest of it. Again...I do not inherently hate tropes within fantasy books, but at least try and put some new content around them.

Anyway, it's a quick read and if you're just looking for something relatively mindless at the beach, could be the perfect choice. Just wasn't what I was craving right now.

Why was this book so good? I stayed up past midnight to finish it, and honestly that is a rare thing for me to do if I’ve chosen to read this book on a limb.

4/5.
