Yoshimoto is a master at creating atmospheres, that the beginning made me believe this would be five stars. However, this thought quickly went downhill as the different relationships were introduced and I did not like the situations going on. As the tone shifted, I was not a fan at all.

Hmmmm

This was ok, but not what I was expecting. The writing was truly something, and what made me rate this book 3-stars. It was just so captivating and unique.

There wasn't really any plot to this, and no complex character studies. This is just a book to read and simply enjoy the writing, in my opinion.

I didn't enjoy the romance that blossomed between two characters who were raised as brother and sister. I don't care that they're not related by blood, that still feels so icky to me. Especially since the girl didn't find out they weren't blood related until they were older, so all that time she saw him as her brother, and that was their relationship.

A very moving and alluring, somewhat spooky in some ways but it touches very much upon hidden familial secrets and how our main girl deals with that. A really touching story and I thoroughly enjoyed!!
