This was not the introduction to Yoshimoto I had hoped for…at large this is a short, intriguing story with an unsettling atmosphere which apparently translates into the relationships of the two main female characters. Both of which I believed completely unnecessary and let the story down. This could have gone somewhere much more exciting with its play of time, memory and truth. Some beautifully simple prose so I’m not writing off Yoshimoto all together but I felt I was promised something different to what I read. Ah well.
