First off, this was way better than the first book. The beginning of this book was so interesting and I was so invested in all of the story lines. There was a bit of a lull in the middle of the book, but I'm so looking forward to the third book.

Secondly, the female characters in this book are amazing. There were so many of them that had very important roles and weren't just there to make the male characters feel better about themselves. I might even be more invested in the female characters' story lines than the males now. A lot of times, male authors butcher their female characters and over sexualize them, but I didn't feel like this was the case here. The female characters have their own goals and motivations and were just a treat to read about.

Thirdly, this world is so rich and the cultures are very fascinating. We saw more of several different cultures in this and it was a lot of fun and really added to my enjoyment of this book.

After reading the first book, I didn't know if I would recommend this series. It was good but not great. After reading this book, I definitely think more people should read this series.

The middle book is always the slowest one, because it's about getting from here to there. Otherwise, high fantasy at the top of it's craft.

Some parts of the book and some of the POVs felt unnecessary. I'd rather read about Simon with the Sithi or Miriamele instead of some random earl. :/

The ending was good but a bit predictable. I hope it's a good set up for the ending.
