Not as good as the first book. It doesn't have much going for it, and felt too long for what happened in it. Could easily been a tad bit shorter. Blaming this on middle book syndrome. I struggled a little getting into it in the beginning and at the end I grew a little tired and just wanted it to be done. Hopefully next one(s, bc my edition are split in two parts) will be better.
I'm also not sure how I feel about Simon. He's still such a mooncalf at times. And for some reason the voice I hear in my head every time he speaks is Kevin's from This Is Us when Kevin and his siblings are kids (you know 10-12yo) and he has that complaining, whiny voice. Took me to the end of this book to realize that. Binabik and Qantaqa are super precious and I love them.

Stone of Farewell is clearly a middle book. The introductions are out of the way, so much is happening to so many people and there is no real resolution.
But it is still a good middle book that I loved reading. Can't wait for the monster that is To Green Angel Tower!

Stone of Farewell is the second book in Tad Williams' Memory, Sorrow, Thorn trilogy (it's sort of also a tetrology because the third book was originally split into two books). This book is much better than the first in the series. It's got a lot more going on, and the pace is much quicker.
The plot moves much quicker in this book than the previous book, which was a lot of set-up. Some of the side stories start to tie together. There are a few twists as well that keep the pacing up nicely, and by the end, I was very much ready to continue right on with the next book.
In the first book of the series, I thought Simon's character was a bit annoying (kind of whiney, Luke Skywalker-like). However, he starts to grow up and actually becomes a likable character. The other characters become much more developed as well. Also, some of the characters that felt a little irrelevant in the first book start to make more sense.
This was my second read through of the book, and my opinion about it remains the same: excellent read, excellent series.

Another chapter in the story of Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn.
This book picks up right where The Dragonbone Chair ends.
Much has befallen Simon, the Prince and even his brother, the King. We are seeing darker themes now, with a cast of characters that aren't what they seem.
I'm looking forward to seeing how everyone gets their quests done and they all come together again.
