Good, but not great. There's a slyness to Rowling's style that I really like, but I thought parts of this dragged a bit, and she's very given to long descriptions of all settings, no matter how minor or fleeting their appearance in the story. Still, I feel genuine affection for Robin, and though I was pretty indifferent to Strike at first, he grew on me. I am interested to see where she takes this series and will read the next book.

I quite enjoyed this book. I am a bit of a sucker for this kind of story, and maybe I'm still recovering from the absolutely awful detective novel I read just before this one, but this was a strangely refreshing read. Compelling enough, easy to get through, and likeable protagonists, this is a solid 3.5-4 stars for me. And finally a new series I will be continuing with.

A really good read! Robin and Strike work well together. I came for the mysteries but stayed for the characters.

This is one of my new favorite of all time books. The way Robert Gailbraith hypnotized me with each world was astounding. I should say that mysteries are my favorite genre of books:) great ending!

This is my 2nd time listening to this novel, and it was as great as the first time! The mystery kept me on my toes, and the ending is not what I would have guessed. I loved the developing relationship between Strike and Robin. I like that Robin is just a little scared of who she could be, but Strike’s confidence in her is just what she needs. Fantastic start to a great series!
