Each Kindness is a heartwarming story about a young girl who regrets not showing kindness to another. This story is written by Jacqueline Woodson.
This story is so powerful because of its ability to portray regret over the loss of friendship in such a simple way. I do believe that I will use this book in my future classrooms because it shows the impact of people not being kind to each other in a non complex way. This book was especially hard for me because of the personal experience of having to be the new kid that had come from a relatively poor home. I highly recommend reading this simple, but powerful book.

There is a new girl, Maya, in Chloe’s class and because she wears old clothes and plays with old toys Chloe and her friends won’t play with her. Maya tries over and over to play with Chloe and her friends, but Chloe and her friends continue to say no. They also whisper behind her back and make fun of the clothes and toys she wears or brings to school. Eventually, Maya’s family has to move. Chloe’s teacher discusses what kindness is and Chloe wishes she had been kinder to Maya.This story is so powerful because of its ability to portray regret over the loss of friendship in such a simple way. a little girl learns the meaning of being kind, but is it too late?
This is a realistic, straight-forward story told from the view point of a girl who comes to regret her cruelty, which I think every kid can relate to. The illustrations were beautiful.
This was a great lesson in kindness. The visual example in the story of the stone causing ripples to spread out and expand makes this memorable and accessible to all students. I think this could develop a fantastic conversation even in the older grades.

This book is about a girl who is never nice to a girl in her class for months. She finally decides to smile a the girl, but before she can the girl moves away. The book is very unsatisfying.

Y'all ... I cried on break today. Each Kindness is a beautifully sad story about a child's regret at a missed opportunity. It particularly moved my heart due to experiences in my own past. As hard as it might be to read your child a sad story, think how much sadder it would be for them to feel this sort of regret. This is a brilliantly written story with which to teach a child both kindness and that sometimes there are no second chances.
With gorgeous watercolors, this story left me with a feeling of ... discomfort. There is no happy ending to the story; I am hoping that students who read it will stop and think if there are times they could have treated others better. I hope that they would come to the self-realization that Chloe does.
