Every kind act counts! If you see an opportunity, go for it. This story is about exactly that.
Such an important story. We can all identify and we all need to read this to be reminded--grown-ups, too.

A real lesson in how important it is to be kind, and how bad you feel when you realize that you missed your chance to make a difference in someone else's life. I think the book provides a good lesson on the importance of kindness, but it is depressing.
Chloe doesn't want to be friends with the new girl, who is poor and ragged. No one else in her class wants to be friends with Maya either. Eventually Maya moves away from town. It is only after that happens that the teacher gives the class a lesson on the importance of kindness, and how ripples of kindness spread out from the initial action. Prompting me to think "Thanks lady, maybe they'll remember that next time!"

An excellent story to show the remorse of someone who turns a blind eye to bullying or participates in the act. A sad ending gives listeners a chance to reflect on their own choices and make kind choices the next time that they are faced with a similar scenario.

A beautifully-rendered story that explores the little ways we exclude people and the regret that comes when we can't apologize.
When Maya starts as a the new student, Chloe and her friends make fun of her and always turn her down when she wants to play at recess. But, when Maya's seat becomes empty and their teacher shows a lesson on kindness, Chloe starts to see that things can be different.
A great book to show that kindness isn't always the first thing on kids' minds, but with a little lesson and thoughtfulness they can see the importance.
