I usually like my romance novels a little bit spicier than this (nothing explicit here), but the anticipation and chemistry were so electric, and the story of melding two families was just so sweet, I really didn't have any major complaints.

Our two main characters both come from close families, but for different reasons, have convinced themselves that marriage is just not in the cards for them right now. However, as both struggle to deny their attraction (which is intense) and end up helping each other through difficult times, they both re-evaluate what truly matters them.

I loved it and I can't wait to read the rest of the series to find out what happens with Yazmine's sisters.

This was a sweet story, a romance where friendship happened in the process of Yaz ans Tómas falling in love. They tried to stay best friends because for awhile it didn’t look like a relationship would work out due to their separate career aspirations. But I never felt like they were making stupid choices — their initial decision made sense.

The side plot, of Yaz’s father having cancer and facing his own mortality, was hard to read but also surprisingly sweet, with how Tómas became involved in the family and was a friend of Yaz’s father as well as her two sisters by the end of the book.

I also loved the focus on dance, as a dancer myself. It was a lovely detail.

This was my first by Oliveras and will not be my last. Book 2 looks promising as well, as it’ll be the story of Rosa, one of Yaz’s two sisters. I read this one as “nightmare antidote” before bed/when awake in the middle of the night, and it was perfect for calming reading.

I have worked my way through Oliveras' backlist over the past year or so and one thing has become exceptionally clear. Her stories are my comfort reads. If she writes it, I'm going to read it. The characters are always interesting and the plot is guaranteed to have layered family dynamics that are full to the brim with romance. His Perfect Partner had just the right balance of light hearted flirtation with a handsome single dad and the somberness that accompanies a parent's terminal illness and death. It also had an unexpected dash of holiday / winter vibes. I'd be remiss if I didn't point out that His Perfect Partner does what very few contemporary romances do well - it features a child as one of the primary characters. As the chemistry and connection between MCs Yazmine and Tomas progresses, you also can envision how these three would work as a family unit. It's sweetly endearing and the second chance that both Tomas and Maria need.

Pick this one up if you are in the mood for:
Bilingual & Latine characters
Holiday & winter vibes
Close proximity
Single dad
Cozy, low angst story
Fade to black / closed door

Thoroughly enjoyed this one on audio. And even better - it's included in the Audible subscriber catalog.

Dnf at 50% - the story is cute but I don’t think it’s for me.
