Another fun one! This one suffered the same problem as the first one in the series: it was a bit jumbled and all over the place. There are a lot of main characters, and I would have to pause now and then to remind myself who I was reading about. But the story was fun and I enjoyed it.

Fun sequel, great audio narration. I will be sad when the day comes that I have finished all her books. Don’t start with this one, though, if you’ve never read her.

Enjoyable, though I'm not a fan of all the love at first sight.

I enjoyed this one more than Dark Lord of Derkholm. It's very cozy. It's a wizarding school (university, but as an adult this works for me because 17ish/18ish is still KIDS in a lot of ways, and some of them are explicitly mentioned as being young, they're definitely late teens), and it's comforting and easy. Everything is low-stakes for the *world at large* but high stakes for the characters. The book is playful, and gives a rising tide of errors and mishaps and attempts to thwart the main characters, but it isn't full of itself. It revels in the tropes of fantasy but also throws them aside when it wants to. DWJ was so good at this.

An absolute treat. Graceful use of freudian insights. Snicker.

This was a good follow up to Dark Lord of Derkholm. I honestly love everything I have ever read by Diana Wynne Jones.
