(Full review to come later). What I like about Jones is that her tales are very light and charming. There's just something about them. Yes, at the end there is some instant-love, but the way she writes makes it seem more like a humorous fairy tale. This book is enjoyable and sweet and funny, and its even better than its predecessor.

What fun! Elda is a wonderful main character, a golden, huge griffin. She is a student at the University, where she falls for the University Chairman, because he reminds her of her old teddy bear. The ineptitude of professors causes Elda and the other new students to draw together, withstanding assassins, pirates, rogue griffins, and visits from an Emperor and King. I also enjoyed Derk's subversive rant.

A perfect blend of adventure, wonderful characters, with a little romance thrown in.

I believe I enjoy this series the most of Jones. I wish she would write more about Derkholm!

Better than Dark Lord of Derkholm, but still not that good. I can't believe this book is by DWJ. Elda is quite likeable, that's about all I can say.

This is quite a separate adventure than Dark Lord of Derkholm, but with overlap in characters and setting.

I really liked seeing everyone come into their own and rebel against everyone for their own sakes.

I wish this one was longer or went deeper. But it's a great light read when you need to know everything will work out.

I wish there were more books in this series! Diana, why did you have to die?

I picked this one up because Neil Gaiman told me to. Well, so did my son, but I heard about her from Neil first. I am glad I read it. This story has a great plot and fun characters, and underneath the somewhat silly approach to fantasy, Jones manages to pull of a wonderful commentary on educational reform. I will be reading more of her work in the future.
