CW: Incest (b/w MCs)

For the love of sanity!!! Tell me beforehand if there's going to be incest. I choked on my water for atleast 30 mins. It mentally disturbed. Can you imagine you rooting for a couple all along just to find out that they're siblings??? Eww!! My disgust was immeasurable. I'm so mad about this. Istg, I never seen anyone mention about this major thing anywhere.

The plot was flat at worst. I'll read the second book just because I want to know what happened to them afterwards. Also, I'm only reading this to understand the new books in the shadowhunters series. It's like a chore to me. I'll change my view if the author get rid of this incesty thing in the next book.

Given that the Mortal Instruments series is rife with lore, world building, and characters, it makes sense that Clare stretches this series out. It was kinda a drag to read this and it makes me feel like we go from one event to another without pause.

It feels like a lot of details are just dumped onto you, without letting all this new  information soak in. I would be normally fine with this, since I'm mostly into the characters for a good ol YA novel.

However, I felt that they fell flat and I really couldn't care what happened to any of them. It just felt meh. I can see the potential in the MI world and I love how Clare builds them up. So points for potential.

Actually enjoyed this book, but the “twist” about the love interest was just too much for me.

Apart from that: enjoyed the worldbuilding, some of the characters (Simon was my fav), the fast passed plot, it felt an immersive experience.
So, all of it would have been a 4⭐️ read for me. It wasn’t though, that twist was unnecessary to the plot and character development, in my opinion.

What I didn’t enjoy:
- dialogues felt angry many times. When they didn’t, they were pretty hilarious often
- MC not lovable
- some character reactions felt incoherent or out of the blue

Will not continue the series cause
Spoiler I’ve seen some reviews that say to the awkwardness between the siblings continues and the series becomes darker
